About Us

Established in Hitchin in 1971, we quickly became known as the local experts in vehicle air conditioning. In the early days most of work involved new installations as few vehicles had air conditioning as standard. Today many vehicles have factory fitted air conditioning and our business has changed to the repair and servicing of existing units.

Company history

Our founder Andy Olsen is a well respected expert who taught many people air conditioning skills in the USA before moving to England to establish Koolway in 1971.

As well as air conditioning, we started fitting armour plating to cars for the British Government and several foreign embassies.

In the 80's we added a body shop to the services we offered. Although very successful, in 2001 we decided to accept an offer for the body shop and to concentrate on our core business of vehicle air conditioning.

In 2007, Andy decided it was time to start taking things a little easier. Koolway became a member of the Wilmond group of companies. The two companies have a long history of mutual trading and Wilmond manufactured many of the components used in bespoke installations. Andy will continue as a consultant for the foreseeable future.
